ABOUT US
Chapel Arts was formed in 2014 with the aim of promoting the range of the Arts in Chapel-en-le-Frith and the surrounding area. We started with a pop-up shop showcasing local talent. Currently we put on local events covering live performance, film, literature and spoken word that are open to all. We became a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) in 2018, allowing us to make further developments by accessing sponsorship and grants to provide community events at little or no cost.
At present we have a thriving Writing Group. Some members of the group have become published authors. They also feature regularly in the Buxton Fringe Festival.
Our Performing Arts strand seeks to bring top quality, though often lesser known musical performers to Chapel. Alongside household names such as Ashley Hutchings and Ian McMillan, we have welcomed bands covering a wide range of genres from gypsy jazz, through world music to choral works. We aim to host two to three concerts per year using the Town Hall. Having had to suspend activities during the Covid years we are gradually re-introducing our concerts and started our comeback in 2022 with a highly successful concert to raise money for Ukrainian refugees.
Chapel Film Group has been showing films on the third Wednesday of the month in the upstairs room at Rems in Chapel-en-le-Frith since 2017 which Gareth Jones kindly allows us to use for free.. Details of the films can be obtained from Rems, or by emailing chapelfilm@gmail.com. It is a community project run by members of Chapel Arts who aim to offer interesting films, at a reasonable cost, thereby providing access to entertainment locally.
Spoken Word started in 2018. The group meets on an ad hoc basis at Rems or The Mustard Seed and welcomes anyone to come along and read either material they’ve written themselves or just something they like. The group also welcomes anyone who just wants to come along and listen.
We are currently unable to run our Arts and Crafts strand. We are searching for a volunteer with an interest in Arts and Crafts to join our committee and to develop this area within Chapel Arts. If you are interested, please email Contact@chapelarts.org.uk to arrange an informal chat.
